In interventional radiology, long guidewires are used to navigate the human body through blood vessels. During such an intervention, several of these guidewires could be needed. Due to their length - up to three meters - it can be cumbersome to keep them sterile and organized during the intervention. They often fall on the ground and lose sterility. Currently there is no satisfying solution to store the guidewires during an intervention single handedly. A novel device was designed in order to store up to eight sterile guidewires up to three meters long during an intervention without compromising the X-ray image quality and the intervention procedure. The device is disposable and can easily be attached to the operation table using existing modular clamps. Significant performance improvements in terms of storing time and using the device single handedly were achieved without obstructing the work field of the interventionalist.
